Sierra Terhoch

Hello, I am Sierra – I’m a Graduate Counselling Intern at HealthMind Clinic! I am currently completing my Master of Counselling at City University.

I came to counselling work through my background in Sociology/Gender Studies, as well as my personal experiences with physical and mental health. Informed by my studies, as well as my lived experiences, I became passionate about the relationship between social issues and wellbeing. Ultimately, I understand that our pain and struggles are a result of our unique identities and stories, as well as the social and culture contexts we live in. I strive to practice counselling from a trauma-informed and anti-oppressive lens, and my work is often informed by intersectional feminism and queer theory.

With a strong belief that healing happens in connection, I prioritize building an authentic therapeutic relationship and supporting you to strengthen your wider network of care/community in creative ways. I use a person-centered, eclectic approach, drawing on a range of modalities that include Narrative Therapy, parts work, DBT, and mindfulness. My work as a Pilates and movement instructor continues to grow my awareness of how impactful the mind/body connection is to healing; I integrate somatic approaches when appropriate, always considering how our bodies can be sites of pain, pleasure, power, and growth.

I welcome clients of diverse backgrounds and struggles, whether that be navigating life transitions, anxiety/depression, trauma, personal growth, and more. I have specific past experience working in Eating Disorders/Disordered Eating, and Chronic Pain and Chronic Illness.

My goal is to collaboratively build a space of care, connection, and non-judgement, that is safe-enough for you to explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences. I hope to support you to expand your sense of agency, empowerment, and authenticity in your life and relationships. I look forward to meeting and working with you!
