Chantelle Lam

Hello, I’m Chantelle, and I’m a Registered Clinical Counsellor with a strong commitment to helping individuals navigate life’s challenges and transitions. With a deep passion and a wealth of academic and practical experience, I’ve crafted an integrative approach to my work that is rooted in a person-centered, systems, and feminist philosophy.

As a graduate of CityUniversity in Canada’s Master of Counselling degree, this community is where my own educational and practice journey began and has become a home to me. My academic journey is ongoing as I work towards a Doctor of Psychology degree, always seeking to expand my knowledge and enhance my ability to provide the best support to my clients.

In my counseling practice, I consider myself a generalist, but I have a particular affinity towards in working with individuals who are facing life transitions, coping with grief and loss, and navigating the complexities of end-of-life situations. I have found great fulfillment in assisting individuals, couples, and other relationship structures in nurturing meaningful connection.

One of the cornerstones of my counseling philosophy is the belief that every person possesses the innate ability to heal and improve their circumstances, provided they have supportive and safe relationships in which to grow, and are empowered to challenge both internal and systemic barriers. I’m dedicated to understanding the uniqueness of your lived experiences, including your early life history, the diverse roles you play in life, and the cultural context in which you exist. I firmly believe that our life dilemmas often arise not just from internal conflict or trauma but are intricately intertwined with the social context in which we live.

I also serve as a supervisor to graduate intern therapists, where I apply the same person-centered and systems-informed approach to help guide and support developing counselling therapists in their professional growth. I see the supervision process as a collaborative one, where the strength of our supervisory relationship provides the conditions in which we work together to enhance your skills and knowledge.

I’m also an active educator in the Master of Counselling program at CityU, most often lending my support to courses related to grief and loss, aging, relationships, supervision and consultation, and the development of counseling practice. Outside of the counselling office and classroom, I engage with the community by facilitating workshops on various topics related to mental health and people leadership. It’s important to me to extend my reach beyond the counseling room to make a positive impact on the well-being of individuals and our wider communities.

My professional journey has been shaped by a commitment to ongoing learning, a strong belief in the power of individuals to grow and heal, and a dedication to understanding the multifaceted aspects of each individual’s life. I look forward to the opportunity to work alongside of you on your journey towards greater well-being and fulfillment.
